The General Chief of Staff of the Army, Lázaro Menete, yesterday appointed eleven Renamo officers to leadership positions.
The act falls within the scope of the understandings reached in the political dialogue between the government and Renamo, according to a press release received yesterday by Noticias.
Colonel Tomas Charles was appointed head of the Civic-Patriotic Education Branch of the Army; Júlio Chamututa to head of the Staff Branch of the Army; Pinho Mortal, to head of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Bureau of the Army and Armindo Guerra to head of the Military Health Branch of the Army.
Also appointed were Colonel Pio Cubias, as commander of the Infantry Brigade of Tete; Arone Nema, Commander of the Infantry Battalion of Quelimane; and Afonso Watola, Infantry Commander of Pemba.
Lieutenant Colonels Lucas Mananga, Tomás Mazivila, Joaquim Mandevo and Filipe Madaba, were assigned to serve as Chiefs of Staff of the Cuamba, Chókwè, Songo and Chimoio infantry brigades, respectively.
According to another statement, the Army Chief of Staff discharged colonels Abel David from the post of head of the Civic-Patriotic Education Branch of the Army branch; Fidelino Anselmo, from head of Army Personnel Division and António Dauce; from the position of head of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Bureau of the Army branch.
Also dismissed were: Colonel Fernando Simão from the post of head of Military Health Department of the Army branch; Colonel Boavida Miguel commander of the Infantry Brigade of Tete;Colonel Inacio Machemecha as commander of the Quelimane Infantry Battalion and Colonel Abdala Assane as the commander of the Quelimane Infantry Battalion.
Lieutenants Colonels Gustavo António, Fenias Cuinica, António Alves and Carlos Nduza were dismissed from the positions of Chiefs of Staff of the infantry brigades of Chókwè, Cuamba, Chimoio and Songo, respectively.
