Zimbabwean authorities have sentenced Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna near Bulawayo to 24 months imprisonment and six months suspended on conditions.
He will effectively spend 18 months behind bars.
Chief Ndiweni (54) and his alleged accomplices are accused of destroying Fetti Mbele’s perimeter fence after the chief ordered her eviction from their village after she was found sleeping with a neighbour.
The main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa on Friday morning said, “Trumped up charges and arrest of Chief Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna is a direct attack on Zimbabwean culture and traditional leadership. This attack opens yet another fresh national wound that will be difficult to heal. We demand the immediate release of the chief and his subjects.”
